Folk music, poetry and politics. Radio engineer Moses
Asch started Folkways Records in 1948 to document "the world
of sound." He released 2,168 LPs of music, spoken word and
sound effects. Thirty-nine years later, the Smithsonian acquired
Folkwayson the condition that they keep every album in print,
forever. In 1998, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings celebrated the
50th anniversary of Folkways' founding. We were proud to create
this special identity system for the occasion, including a poster,
t-shirt,
and various
printed materials.
