A world of sound. Smithsonian Folkways Recordings director
Tony Seeger says that "sound is an essential part of human
experience.... The Smithsonian has unparalleled collections of
insects, or gems, of paintings, and many other things, so why
not a wonderful collection of sound?" So far they've released
over 200 CDs, including folk, bluegrass, classical, world music,
spoken word and more. The catalog
we designed honors this eclectic vision: all releases to date
are included,
plus lots of images and text from the Smithsonian archives, the
public library, and wherever else we could find them.
